The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) has revealed the line-up for its annual Forum which will take place at Sydney’s Hilton Hotel on March 4.

The Forum, previously known as the Regulatory Update, will host assistant treasurer Kelly O’Dwyer as key note speaker with a host of other industry players also taking the stage.

Rob Whelan, CEO of the ICA, said that the Forum will greatly benefit from O’Dwyer’s comments as she has oversight over some major issues.

“Minister O’Dwyer has oversight of several issues that have the potential to greatly affect insurers and their customers in 2016,” Whelan said.

“Among those are the findings of the Northern Australia Insurance Premiums Taskforce which the Minister is considering right now.

“Insurers will also be looking for signs the government is seriously considering ways to encourage the states to remove their insurance stamp duties as part of the package of tax reform measures it is planning to take to the Federal election.”

Deputy chair of ASIC, Peter Kell, will also speak at the forum as will APRA member Geoff Summerhayes, the CEO of the National Disability Insurance Scheme, David Bowen, and the chair of the Insurance Council Effective Disclosure Taskforce, Michael Gill.

They will be joined by Estelle Pearson, managing director of Finity Consulting, Catherine Fox, author and workplace commentator, and Jessica Irvine, an economics writer with Fairfax.

Whelan said that those in attendance an important opportunity to come together after a tough 2015.

“Delegates can expect perceptive analysis and robust discussion around key issues including the impact of climate change on insurance, efforts to assist low-income earners to better access insurance and the National Injury Insurance Scheme,” Whelan continued.

“After a tough 2015 for the industry due to significant payouts around catastrophe events and flat returns on investments, the ICA Annual Forum is an important opportunity for insurance professionals to gain an information advantage for the year ahead.”
