A former insurance law specialist has been announced as the first ever female board member for investment firm Centuria Capital.

Susan Wheeldon-Steele, a former insurance and financial services team leader at DLA Piper, has been appointed to sit on the board of the ASX-listed company after coming to the attention of Garry Charny, Centuria chair, through the Women on Boards database, WomensAgenda.com.au reported.

Since her stint with DLA Piper, Wheeldon-Steele has taken a number of senior roles including time with AMP Capital Investments and is currently head of performance at Google.

Charny welcomed Wheeldon-Steele to her new position and said her varied experience will help Centuria grow.

“We are delighted to have someone of Susan’s calibre and unique skill set, particularly in the digital space, to join the board at a time of major growth for the company.

“She is a step towards the future."
