Insurer waives excess for transport academy members

Zurich Fleet has relaxed the policy conditions for drivers to undertake the Victorian Transport Association’s Driver Cadetship Academy in a bid to offer it greater support.

The insurer will waive the excesses for cadets, which are typically $2,500, provided companies are Zurich Fleet customers or VTA members. In addition, vehicles must be fitted with telematics.

“We know that the industry has avoided using young drivers in the past due to higher premiums and excesses, so when the VTA approached us to support their cadetship program we were happy to get behind it,” said head of motor, Khoder Chehade.

“Companies need to provide greater driver supervision, training and awareness for young drivers while also monitoring them through technology advancements such as telematics to ensure they are experienced and confident enough to be behind the wheel.”

VTA aims to increase truck driver safety and attract young workers to the transport and logistics industry.
