QBE appoints global CIO

A major Australian insurer has appointed a global exec to a newly created role within the business

QBE Insurance Group has announced the appointment of Markus Nordlin to the newly created role of global chief information officer, based in New York City. He will report to Group COO Colin Fagen.

In a statement, the major insurer explained that as global CIO, Nordlin will be in charge of QBE’s IT strategies across the 37 countries where it operates. He will serve as a member of QBE’s global operations leadership team, providing a platform for alignment of the IT function to meet business needs and expectations throughout the group.

Fagen said the appointment is central to QBE’s plans to “create a united IT strategy” across the company, which aims to simplify technology architecture and drive innovation and change.

“Markus has expertise in driving major infrastructure consolidation and operational excellence as well as new customer-focused digital platforms. I look forward to Markus creating further competitive advantage for QBE through efficiency gains and innovation in IT.” 

Nordlin has over 20 years’ experience in information technology leadership.

He was most recently chief information and technology officer for Zurich Insurance, responsible for leading its global IT services across 170 countries with more than 8,000 IT employees and contractors; and for 16 years, had held senior roles at Zurich Insurance in Switzerland and the United States.
