TAL Risk Academy will launch its second annual Ethics Month this May, aimed at bolstering professionalism and ethical standards among financial advisers.

The focus of the initiative is to deepen advisers’ understanding of the Financial Adviser Code of Ethics, with an emphasis on recent client determinations.

TAL Risk Academy’s second Code of Ethics series

This year, TAL Risk Academy will introduce four new courses. These will address navigating conflicts, handling ethical dilemmas, and the integration of ethical practices into daily business operations and client advice.

The academy plans to conduct weekly live webinars led by the TAL technical team, which will explore key elements of the Code of Ethics, examine real-world cases, and equip advisers with essential tools for ethical decision-making.

Jason Bamford, national sales development manager at TAL, noted the positive response to last year’s program, which attracted over 1,700 participants.

“TAL’s Ethics Month is designed to support advisers in their compliance with the Code of Ethics and provide a practical understanding of this important topic,” he said. “Ethical decision-making lies at the heart of responsible financial advice practice. In today’s complex and rapidly evolving advice landscape, advisers are regularly faced with complex ethical dilemmas. Our aim with Ethics Month is to empower advisers with the knowledge and resources to confidently navigate these challenges.”

The series is designed to provide actionable insights and skills applicable to real-world scenarios, aiming to enhance participants’ critical thinking, decision-making, and communication abilities. Each session will count as an hour of Continuing Professional Development (CPD), contributing up to four hours toward the yearly nine-hour requirement in Professionalism and Ethics.

Advisers can register for these live sessions now. Although the courses will not be available on-demand, they will complement the range of on-demand ethics materials already available through TAL.

Interested advisers can reach out to their local TAL sales representative or visit the TAL Adviser Centre for more information. The deadline for completing CPD requirements is June 30 for most advisers.

In February, TAL outlined the 2024 course program for TAL Risk Academy, featuring five streams: Foundations, Professional Year, Advice, Business Management, and Working with TAL.
