Douw Steyn, founder of CompareThe Market.com, isn’t satisfied with building the most expensive home in South Africa – he wants to build a city around his 2,000 acre estate as well.

The man that brought Russian meerkat Alexandr Orlov to our TV screens has ploughed a reported £14m into his modestly titled home, Palazzo Steyn, pictured, as he’s built the most luxurious estate in South Africa. The property includes seven bedroom suites, a wine cellar and 33-car marble garage, one large swimming pool, two fire pools and a walled garden.

The estate is nestled between Johannesburg and Pretoria and Steyn has even grander ideas for the area surrounding his new property as he looks to develop “a lifestyle estate founded on the principle of community and quality of life,” complete with health care centres, schools and a Nicklaus Design, competition-grade golf course, the Daily Mail reports.

Steyn and his partner Giuseppe Plumari plan on building 11,000 homes in the area, surrounded by woodlands, where children are safe to play outside and cars are a thing of the past.

Steyn City, as the development is named, will be ready for inhabitants in early 2015 and the development has already created nearly 10, 000 jobs in the area according to its website.

“Our underlying philosophy, as developers of Steyn City, is one that ensures our local community stakeholders, as well as future home owners, benefit from our presence and investment in the surrounding infrastructure,” Plumari says on the Steyn City website.
So, for the man that brought meerkats to our ad breaks, it isn’t quite a “simples” life after all!
