The nominees for the inaugural Care and Service Excellence Awards (CASE) have been announced by WorkCover NSW.

The awards aim to celebrate the achievements of those working across injury management, loss prevention and underwriting in the State’s workers compensation scheme.

Eighteen nominees have been revealed across six categories and will be judged by an expert panel including industry leaders from JLT, Willis and WorkCover Insurance NSW, amongst others.

Vivek Bhatia, the recently announced CEO of Insurance & Care NSW (icare), said that the awards will provide a benchmark for the future.

“For the first time in NSW we can formally pay tribute to those people who work directly with injured workers, coordinating their care and treatment on a day-to-day basis,” Bhatia said.

“Feedback from a recent survey and forum with injured workers highlighted the importance of effective interaction between Scheme Agents, employers and injured workers.

“These Awards are designed to provide a best practice benchmark for the industry, raising standards and resulting in a better experience for those who have been impacted by a workplace injury, and streamlining services for businesses that operate in the Scheme.”

EML lead the nominations with seven, with CGU collecting four nods as Allianz and GIO have three nominations each and QBE picked up one.

GIO’s manager of NSW Workers Compensation claims, David Hyslop, stressed that the nominations for Bede Foley in the excellence in improving client performance category, Michael Ivicecih in the services to the WorkCover NSW Scheme category, and the Litigated Claims team in the outstanding contribution by a team category, reflect the strength of the business.

“As part of Australia’s largest personal injury insurer, GIO Workers Compensation knows how important it is to provide outstanding claims and injury management services to injured workers and their employers,” Hyslop said.

“These award nominations are a great acknowledgement for the hard work Bede, Michael and the Litigated Claims Team have done to provide best-practice service. They can all be very proud to know they are setting the benchmark for agents within the NSW WorkCover scheme.”

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Sydney on September 23.
