HDI-Gerling, Germany’s leading industrial insurer, has announced the opening of a new office in Melbourne.

The insurer has an office in Sydney and the Melbourne branch will have industry experts in property, liability and marine insurance and has recruited a team with Melbroune market experience.

Daryl La Fontaine has joined the company from CGU Insurance as property underwriting manager for the Southern Region while Matthew Wuiske will take the position of liability underwriting manger for the Southern Region having left his casualty manager role at ACE.

Stefan Feldmann, managing director of HDI-Gerling in Australasia, believes that opening another office in Australia signals the intent of the company and its plans for the local market.

“Opening a Melbourne office demonstrates our commitment to our broking partners and corporate clients in the southern region.

“Our new office forms an integral part of our strategy to expand our well established business model in industrial insurance to a larger audience of corporate customers.”

An unnamed marine underwriting manager for the same region has also been appointed and will join the team next month, while the office will also recruit a senior risk engineer.

The office, which opened earlier this week, will be located in The Lantern on Collins Street in the Docklands precinct of the city.
