Zurich has announced that Daniel Fogarty, CEO of general insurance for Australia and New Zealand, is leaving the company this week.

Fogarty “will take a well-earned break and then pursue other endeavours,” the company said in a statement as his tenure with the company comes to an end on September 23.

Rajbir Nanra, chief financial officer for Zurich General Insurance Australia and New Zealand, has been appointed Fogarty’s interim successor while the company search for a full-time replacement.

In a statement, the company praised Fogarty’s contribution to the business, which he joined in 2009, and helped develop into a major presence in the region.

“Daniel is passionate about employee development and engagement, and has been a strong advocate for Zurich’s community work, increasing diversity and retaining and attracting talent to our industry,” the statement said.

“Zurich wishes to thank Daniel for his dedication and contributions and wishes him all the best for his future.”

The statement praised Fogarty, who became CEO of the company’s local operations in 2012, and his leadership as he guided the company to back-to-back wins in both the Insurance Business Brokers on Insurers survey and NIBAs general insurer of the year award in 2013 and 2014.
